Hotel Room Color… Does it matter?
Apparently, men are picker than women when it comes to room color. According to a study done by Vanja Bogicevic, a student at USFSM, when given an option men prefer dark browns, blues and grays, while women prefer pinks, purples and oranges. However, despite both men and women having a preference, men care more strongly about their color choices.
Why does any of this matter? In most cases, it probably doesn’t. According to the article by Charles Schelle of the the Bradenton Herald, the majority of hotel rooms are off-white or beige, and unless your are staying at an upscale or luxury hotel, clean and well priced rooms are the priority, not color.
However, there are cases where hotels are paying attention, for example Wyndam hotels are redesigning to cater to female business travelers. There are also other aspects of design to consider, like contemporary vs Tudor-style furniture attracting people of different age groups.
For me, the most interesting aspect of the article, was the idea of design and color coming together with technology to affect the individuals hotel and room experience. For example, using electronic panes on walls so guests can change the color of their room at will. This may be a bit futuristic, but its a fun idea!
